Week Six Final Wrap-up: How?

Aside

We made it! We’re on the other side of the Christmas season having flexed and persevered through one of the most exciting times of the year but also one of the most challenging to our day-to-day walk with God. I’m grateful to have been able to spend this time with you. Each of you has been an accountability partner to me at a time of the year when I don’t get out much.

I’m excited about 2012 and what God has in store for each of us as we seek Him through His Word! I do hope you’ll consider joining Jan Silvious and me for an 8-week online mentoring study that starts on January 26. It’s called Influence: Living and Sharing a Life of Wisdom.

I’m looking forward to discussing encumbrances with you this week. Maybe you’ve got them all under control but I’m in constant battle to run light and I’m always looking for practical suggestions from others who by God’s grace are working to do the same.

Let’s just put it this way: I got an iPad for my December birthday and so far I’ve had to uninstalled Bejeweled . . . twice. Today in its place I bought an app that lets me record myself. This morning I recorded James 1 and am slowly succumbing to the thought that I need memorize that epistle this year.

Again, I am so grateful for you!

With much love,

pam

Week Five Wrap-Up: Why?

Aside

The past couple of weeks I’ve been working through Jeremiah and Ezekiel giving myself a head start on my 2012 Bible read through. I’m hoping that you’ll be reading through the Bible this coming year, too, and that you’ll go ahead and “count” any of the reading you’ve done during our time together. I think momentum is a great thing, especially in Bible reading.

You’ve probably gathered by now that while I’m extremely passionate about Bible reading, I’m not big on over-structured approaches. I’m all for starting a little early and keeping on track by logging my reading instead locking myself into an arbitrary daily schedule. If you’re reading through the Bible this coming year, you may want to check my book Ablaze. It’s full of, well, non-traditional Bible reading tips that I think will help you out and cheer you on. Here’s a link for more info.

I’ve been honored to spend the Christmas season studying with each of you this year. Let’s finish strong and let God’s Word propel us into 2012 and beyond!

Week Three Wrap-up: When?

Aside

“So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”
—Psalm 90:12 (NASB)

I know I’m probably sounding like a broken record, but I can’t get over the engagement level we have going on here. I love that you’re discussing with me and I LOVE that you’re discussing with one another, too! I want to personally thank each of you for being my accountability partners this December. I’m enjoying reading and studying and discussing with each of you!

I hope this week’s video will encourage you to think outside of the box in terms of getting into God’s Word. Quality time in the Word is critical, but I believe quantity is important, too. Why not have God’s Word playing as we go about our day instead of talk radio and who knows what else?

There are so many tasks we can do and listen to God’s Word at the same time!

So here’s my secret confession for the day. I love to play Tetris. I don’t play it very often unless I’m playing with my kids, but one of my favorite “guilty pleasures” is playing a game of Tetris (volume down) to the reading of the book of Hebrews. Crazy? Maybe—but I don’t think so!

Looking forward to hearing from you this week!

Much love,

pam

Week Two Wrap-up: What?

Aside

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son . . .”
            —Hebrews 1:1-2a (NASB)

So glad to have you here for our Week Two Wrap-up! Hope you’ve had a good and enjoyable week of studying and reading. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate each one of you and value your thoughtful input here. It takes a community to be able to do an interactive study like this and I thank God for bringing the people He wanted to be here.

I’d like to add one more question to the suggested topics to talk about on this post: Have you ever had a reading accountability partner? If so, how did it work for you?

Thanks again for pursuing God through His Word along with me this Christmas season. It is my joy to walk alongside of you.

Blessings,

pam

Week One Wrap-Up: Who?

Aside

Welcome to our Week One Wrap-Up! I’m so thrilled that you’ve decided to go on this Christmas Bible study journey with me and I’m looking forward to some great online discussions.

Just so you know, the video this week is a little longer than most will be—runs a little over 20 minutes. I try to keep video segments more in the 10 to 15 minute range so wanted to give you a heads up on that.

Finally, if you have friends who are interested in joining us, tell them to come on along! We’ll be leaving the blog live even after the “official” time frame has wrapped up and I’ll happily walk alongside and chat with late-comers who want to pursue God through His Word!

Again, overjoyed to be studying with you this Christmas season!

Many blessings,

pam

Welcome to IGNITE!

Launching Thanksgiving Day, 2011!

If you’ve ever struggled with reading the Bible this study is for you! In six short weeks, we’ll look at the Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? of Bible reading as we seek God and ask Him to ignite in us a passion for His Word and His ways!

How it Works:
  • Each week you’ll download a no-cost-to-you PDF at this blog site and work through the flexible material on your own.
  • Every Thursday, we’ll post a wrap-up video that you can watch at your convenience any time 24/7. The video will pose some discussion questions that you can respond to on the blog.
  • Post your responses to my questions or your replies to other class members any time 24/7.

General Guidelines:

Don’t share anything that would be embarrassing to your loved ones or friends. Remember, while this is a community group it is also a public forum.

Be nice! I’ve never had any trouble with online blog studies, but I think it’s always important to remind one another that as a culture we are still learning how to communicate online without the benefit of eye contact and body language. Because of this make sure to err on the side of kindness and grace.
